Ample, well-lit free parking. Handicapped accessible.
Access to Theatre Two is on the right-hand side of the Gunston Middle School complex as you enter. (See below for where to go before or after the show.)

Alternately, you can follow one of these…

From I-395:
Take the Shirlington/Glebe Road exit and stay to the right. At the light, take a left onto South Glebe Road. Remain on South Glebe Road until you pass the Shirley Shopping Center on your left. Take the first left onto South Lang Street just past the end of the shopping center. The entrance to Gunston Arts Center is about 200 yards up the hill on the left.

From Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway):
Take the South Glebe Road exit. Coming from Alexandria, this is the second Glebe Road exit. Cross Mt. Vernon Avenue/Arlington Ridge Road and take the next right onto South Lang Street (before the Shirley Shopping Center). The entrance to Gunston Arts Center is about 200 yards up the hill on the left.

From D.C.:
Take the 14th Street Bridge to I-395 South and follow the directions above from I-395.

From Maryland (crossing the American Legion Bridge):
Take the George Washington Parkway South. Exit the Parkway at I-395 South and follow the directions above from I-395.

From Maryland (crossing the Wilson Bridge):
Exit at Route 1 North. Follow Route 1 North through Alexandria, across the Monroe Street Bridge where it crosses the railroad tracks and continue north toward National Airport and Washington DC. Before reaching Crystal City, follow directions above from Route 1.

From the Beltway West of I-395:
Exit at I-395 North. This is a left exit from the outer loop. Follow directions below from I-395.

RIDE-SHARE DIRECTIONS

Both Uber and Lyft will recognize your destination if you enter “Gunston Arts Center, Theatre Two.” “Gunston Middle School” will also get you there.

 

When you hail a car after the show, your pickup point will likely be the main entrance to the school. If you need assistance, just ask a house manager.

WALKING DIRECTIONS FROM CRYSTAL CITY METRO STOP
• Head west on 18th Street South toward South Bell Street (0.1 mile)
• Turn left onto South Eads Street (0.2 mile)
• Slight right to stay on South Eads Street (397 feet)
• Turn right onto 23rd Street South (0.8 mile)
• Turn left onto South Arlington Ridge Road (0.3 mile)
• Slight right onto South Lang Street (171 feet).

Driving Directions

From Southern Virginia

  • Take I-395 North.
  • Take Exit 6 – Shirlington / Quaker Lane, then stay left to continue toward Shirlington.
  • After the merge onto Quaker Lane, keep right toward Shirlington Road.
  • At the second signal, turn left onto S. Four Mile Run Drive.
  • Theatre on the Run is about a block down, on the left hand side between S. Nelson Street and S. Oakland Street.
  • The entrance to the Theatre is on the right-hand side of the building, facing S. Oakland Street.

From Washington DC & Maryland

  • Take I-395 South.
  • Take Exit 7 – Shirlington / Glebe Road, then keep to the left toward Shirlington.
  • At the signal, turn right onto Shirlington Road. Then quickly get to the left.
  • At the next signal, turn left onto S. Four Mile Run Drive.
  • Theatre on the Run is about a block down, on the left hand side between S. Nelson Street and S. Oakland Street.
  • The entrance to the Theatre is on the right-hand side of the building, facing S. Oakland Street.

Parking

  • Free parking is available during performances in the lot in the rear of the building. To access this lot turn onto S. Oakland Street and make the first left behind the building, past the Theatre entrance.
  • There are additional, smaller free parking lots on S. Oakland Street (in front of the Theatre entrance) and S. Four Mile Run Drive.
  • Limited street parking is available along S. Four Mile Run Drive, S. Oakland Street, and S. Nelson Street. This parking is metered, but free after 6 PM.

Public Transportation

Avant Bard encourages our patrons using public transportation to use the WMATA Trip Planner for detailed transfer and time estimates.

  • There is a bus stop just outside Theatre on the Run at S. Four Mile Run Drive and S. Nelson Street. The 25-C and Art 75 run regularly through this stop from the Shirlington Bus Depot. From the bus stop, walk along S. Four Mile Run toward S. Oakland Street, and take that left. The Theatre entrance will be on the left-hand side.
  • Patrons travelling by Metrorail should transfer via the Pentagon Bus Terminal right outside the Pentagon Metro Station (blue and yellow lines). Alternatively, there is a taxi stand located near the Ritz Carlton, just outside the Pentagon City Metro Station (blue and yellow lines).

Dining Options

Theatre on the Run is just a five-minute walk from the many fine eateries located within The Village at Shirlington.

  • From the intersection of S. Campbell Avenue and S. Randolph Street, walk west along Campbell Avenue (away from I-395).
  • Continue along S. Campbell Avenue as it curves to the right (you will pass Shirlington Library on your left).
  • Cross over S. Arlington Mill Drive, then continue to walk across the blue footbridge.
  • After crossing the bridge, continue to walk north along S. Nelson Street (there will be a baseball field on your right).
  • Theatre on the Run is located within the Cultural Affairs Building on the corner of S. Nelson Street and S. Four Mile Run Drive (past the AFAC on the left).
    There are two entrances available (shown as stars on the map) – one facing the parking lot on the southern side of the building between S. Nelson Street and S. Oakland Street (under the “Cultural Affairs” awning), and one on the western side of the building facing S. Oakland Street (under the “Theatre on the Run” sign).
