SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED THROUGH MAY 31, 2022
Avant Bard Theatre in Arlington, VA is now accepting play submissions from local DC regional playwrights for the seventh annual Scripts In Play Festival, scheduled to run during the 2022-23 season.
Avant Bard Theatre is a professional regional company dedicated to producing the best in classics, both time-tested and contemporary. The Scripts In Play Festival is for new plays that exhibit a fresh take on a classic story or theme.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
All submissions from playwrights who live in the DC region will be considered by the Avant Bard literary committee. If selected, plays will be programmed in the festival. Festival plays are assigned a director, who will cast and stage two readings with free admission. Rehearsals will occur before the initial reading. A special workshop rehearsal–during which the playwright and director will have the opportunity to make adjustments based on anything learned through the initial reading and audience feedback–will take place between the two readings. Note: the two readings will occur on separate days.
Avant Bard is specifically seeking new plays that could benefit from this special workshop rehearsal between the two staged readings.
If selected, playwrights will receive a stipend covering the performance rights for the rehearsals, the two performance readings and the workshop rehearsal in between the readings.
If not selected, playwrights will receive notice from the reading committee no later than August 31, 2022.
Avant Bard will be producing the seventh annual Scripts In Play Festival as salon events at various homes throughout the area during October and November 2022. It is also possible that the festival will shift to a digitally produced format, should health precautions deem it necessary.
